Louisiana Physician Continuing Medical Education (CME) Requirements for Licensure Registration
Credit amount: 25 AMA PRA Category 1 CME Credits™ or equivalent per calendar year. No CME requirements for first-time license renewals.

Topics: One-time board orientation course.
  • Must complete a board sponsored/approved orientation program within their first renewal period following licensure. Authorized Prescribers of Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS) must complete 3 hours of Category 1 or board-approved CME within their first renewal period following licensure.
    • Physicians must complete a 3 hour CME course on drug diversion training, best prescribing practices of controlled substances and appropriate treatment for addiction. In addition, licensees are required to complete a one-time board orientation course to acquaint new licensees with the Louisiana Medical Practice Act, the function of the board and its rules, opportunities available in rural and underserved communities.
